Do You Need Maternity Scrubs?

When it comes to maternity wear, scrub manufacturers offer a variety of styles and options! But at some point you wonder, are maternity clothes worth spending the extra money? Like anything- there’s bound to be an advantage to purchasing maternity scrubs.
However, if you’re strapped for cash, there could be value in re-purposing old scrubs, or at least trying to make our current scrubs last as long as possible.
So before shopping for an entire new set of maternity scrubs, let’s take a look into the closet, consider a few different options!
Stretching Out Your Scrubs
In the early weeks of your pregnancy, you’ll likely be able to wear your usual scrub pants. Just situate them lower on your waist, under your belly. Loosen the drawstring.
As you grow, try on larger sized scrub pants. This will hopefully provide enough belly space to keep you comfortable (and prolong that shopping trip)!
While it’s not as easily done as it is with pants, increasing the size of your regular scrub tops could be helpful. However, sometimes this makes scrub tops appear too boxy- so if you’re feeling a bit frumpy, you may want to bite the bullet, or have your scrub tops taken to a tailor.
Biting the Bullet: Purchasing Maternity Scrubs
The obvious advantage of wearing maternity bottoms is the elastic waistband, which extends and stretches to accommodate your growing baby bump. If you’re anything of a seamstress, you can always DIY your own waistband onto your regular scrubs! But for those of us who aren’t proficient in sewing, purchasing a set from a scrub manufacturer may be the way to go.
Sometimes, all you need is a comfy soft shell jacket from Blue Sky. Worn casually over your scrubs, your darling baby bump will be perfectly concealed, and you’ll look great.
