blue sky scrubs Cap Featured in 'Grey's Anatomy' Season Finale

HOUSTON -- Luxury scrub hat maker blue sky scrubs saw one of its hats featured on the hit ABC television show Grey's Anatomy during the show's season finale Sunday night. The show scored the night's largest television audience -- approximately 33 million viewers.

A big fan of the show, Dr. Shelby Marquardt, founder and president of blue sky scrubs, sent samples of the company's unique and fashionable scrub hats to the Grey's Anatomy costume department months ago in hopes that they would be considered. (The company did not pay for product placement.)

"We are incredibly excited that one of blue sky scrub's caps was featured on the show," Marquardt says. "What better way to showcase our scrubs than on the most popular show on television?"

The hat featured was the "Atlas" design, one of 12 in blue sky scrubs' Urban Collection for men. "The show is very selective about the scrubs the actors wear, and tailor each piece specifically, so it is very flattering that they chose a blue sky scrubs cap for the show," Dr. Marquardt says.

blue sky scrubs was launched in 2006 by Dr. Marquardt, an anesthesiology resident at Houston's Hermann Memorial Texas Medical Center. She first invented the Pony scrub cap to wear herself as an alternative to unappealing bouffant style. The Pony (patent pending) is a slim-fitting hat with a ribbon-tied pouch that neatly ties back a short or a long ponytail. Marquardt's co-workers began clamoring for their own Pony caps, and word spread quickly to other hospitals. She subsequently developed the Mini scrub hat for women with shorter hair, and then created the men's version.

With help from her husband, entrepreneur David Marquardt, blue sky scrubs was established and www.blueskyscrubs.com was launched. In a few short months, blue sky scrubs attracted customers from more than 40 states and several foreign countries without any advertising.

blue sky scrubs continues to add fabrics for the men's and women's lines, available in multitudes of colors and patterns. Many of the fabrics are limited editions, exclusive to blue sky scrubs. Scrub pants and coats, and a disposable line, will be added in the future.
